Jeroen Duijf
1988
Jeroen Duijf is a Dutch contemporary painter, born in Blerick, the Netherlands, in 1988, and currently living and working in ’s-Hertogenbosch. He graduated from the Academy of the Arts in Tilburg in 2014.
Duijf is known for his colourful, expressive oil paintings, combining thick layers of paint with smoother, spontaneous brushwork. His imagery comes largely from everyday life, but is transformed into a playful and sometimes dark universe populated by skulls, tropical islands, strange birds, factories, tattooed figures—and his recurring black cat, Joep.
His work mixes humour with more serious themes such as friendship, mortality, happiness and belonging. References to contemporary pop culture sit alongside influences from traditional painting and seventeenth-century still lifes. Duijf has described his body of work as something like one large comic book about his life, where individual paintings become episodes in an ongoing story.
More recently, Duijf has explored punk and hardcore subcultures, particularly the sense of community and friendship they create. His paintings increasingly balance recognizable figurative subjects with areas of abstraction. In 2025 he was the featured artist at Art The Hague.
Duijf has exhibited at museums and galleries in the Netherlands and Denmark, including Museum Jan Cunen, Museum van Bommel van Dam, Galerie Wolfsen and HAGD Contemporary. In April 2026, HAGD presented his solo exhibition Tiny Wins in Aalborg
