Hendrik Beikirch
Germany 1974
Hendrik Beikirch, born in Kassel, Germany in 1974, is a contemporary painter and mural artist known internationally for his powerful monochrome portraits. Also known by the name ECB, Beikirch creates works ranging from intimate paintings on canvas to monumental murals covering entire building façades.
His subjects are often ordinary, anonymous people, whose faces reveal age, experience and individual stories. Working almost exclusively in black, white and shades of grey, Beikirch deliberately contrasts his work with the polished and idealised imagery of modern media and advertising.
The result is highly realistic yet deeply expressive portraiture, exploring themes of humanity, identity, vulnerability and dignity. His works become almost abstract when viewed up close, while from a distance they form strikingly realistic faces.
Beikirch has exhibited and created large-scale works internationally, and his exhibitions have included Paris, Cologne, Marrakech, New York and Aalborg, where he has exhibited with Galerie Wolfsen and HAGD Contemporary
