Karel Dicker

Karel Dicker is a Dutch contemporary artist, born in Limburg, the Netherlands, in 1989, and currently living and working in Maastricht. He studied design in Boxtel before completing his art studies at Hogeschool Zuyd in Maastricht in 2016.
Dicker is particularly known for his intimate still-life paintings and landscapes, where ordinary objects—wine glasses, vases, cigarettes, ashtrays, flowers and tables—become the starting point for quiet, atmospheric scenes. His paintings often feel like small fragments of a larger story, capturing a moment just before or after someone has entered the scene.
A distinctive feature of his practice is his fascination with colour, texture and the physical qualities of paint. He works intuitively, building his compositions through layers of colour and experimentation. Many of his works are also presented in carefully crafted wooden frames, which become an integral part of the finished artwork.
Dicker's work has gained growing international attention. Recent exhibitions include Nino Mier Gallery in New York, Althuis Hofland in Amsterdam, Sorry We're Closed in Brussels, as well as appearances at Felix Art Fair in Los Angeles and the Dallas Art Fair. His 2025 New York solo exhibition Tamed Flowers brought together still lifes, interiors and landscapes in his characteristic intimate style
